There are three kinds of hair extensions. The first is strand extensions. These are small strands of hair usually tied onto small bundles of your own hair so that, after several strands are attached, you have a lock of hair that is usually coloured some outrageous colour and that is mixed in with your regular hair. The strands are cut to fit in with your hairstyle and they last for several weeks or up to two months, depending on how well you take care of them. Eventually, they become untied from your regular hair and fall out. This type of hair extensions can also be glued into your hair, heat fused to your hair, clamped onto your hair with small metal tubes or affixed to your hair using waxes and polymers. Gain, they don’t last forever, regardless of the technique used to affix them to your head.
Another kind of hair extensions is the weft extension. These are wefts or long strings of hair attached along a line and which are sewn into the hair near the scalp of the hair. Several wefts are sewn into the hair so that your hair takes on the appearance of a layered look with long hair extensions mixing in with your regular hair. The trickiest part is matching the extension hair with your regular hair so it doesn’t look like you have two-toned hair. It takes several hours to sew in the extensions but the result looks really realistic and can be kept in the hair for several months. |
